Through the Canal to Bras D’ Or Lake | St. Peters

Famous for its CANAL SWIM in August. Notorious for its Pirate Weekend in autumn.

St. Peters – the connection from Bras D’OR Lake to the Atlantic Ocean.

Village on the Canal is on the sign. The Canal, the lock to Nova Scotia’s largest inland lake – the Bras D’ Or Lake – is more than 150 years old.

The canal is 800 metres long with a revolving bridge that allows sailing ships to pass through the sailing ships every 2 hours in summer. The road and connection to Sydney is then cut by 15 to 20 minutes. You wait patiently in the car. No one chuckles, no one honks.

St. Peters is a very small town, with a certain something that you don’t recognize at first glance.

You can shop here well. From Tim Hortons to Foodland, Dollar Shop or Home Hardware, there’s also a Fine Diner Restaurant.

The Bras D’ Or Lake – including a hotel and a bar where regular events take place.

Every year on the first weekend of August, the “CANAL SWIM” takes place. Fun for the whole family, holidaymakers and all ages.

St Peters Canal Swim Coast Guard

St. Peters – Canal Swim & Pirate Days.

The annual canal swimming consists of two parts:

Jump in, have fun and somehow arrive at the end.

The competition – time swimming for the experienced and sporty.

The whole area belongs again to the Canada Historic Sites and is maintained accordingly.

Via the lock you can walk to the other side – to the Lighthouse, Campground and a few trails.

The campground, fantastically located – on the hillside, terraced with a view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Fine Dining or Fish & Chips on the Schoolbus.

Bras D’ Or Lake is the place deer and is located directly at the lock bridge.

A little noble and classy it already looks, the restaurant. You hardly dare to go in – we tourists.

The Canadian has fewer problems – he also comes to eat in shorts, flip flops and hunting knives on the belt.

But the prices are more pleasant than you might think.

If you prefer to have it more rustic, go to the bar next door. There, too, you can eat well. The drinks prices are identical.

In the high season, events take place here every weekend. Regional bands & singers put their hands up here.

And who only passes through St. Peters, because he wants to go to Sydney, stop at the old yellow school bus to Fish & Chips ?
